What is ECU Programming?

When a manufacturer develops a new car they have to take into consideration all of the conditions it may be subjected to in all of the regions in which they intend to sell this model. This means instead of just optimising the ECU’s program or ‘map’ to deliver the best performance or the most fuel efficiency they have to make compromises to the map to take into account these potential differing operating conditions. These could include sub-standard fuels, extremes in temperature and altitude, differing emission laws and even the possibility that vehicle may not be serviced on a regular basis and in accordance with the manufacturers recommended instructions.

ECU remapping or ECU Reprogramming is taking a read from the ECU’s processing chip of the vehicles standard compromised map called ecu flashing and adjusting various parameters within the map such as fuel pressure, boost pressure (on turbocharged applications) ignition advance and throttle pedal control amongst others to release the true performance from the engine. It is a completely safe process as it is just giving the engine the performance it should have had in the first place before all the compromises were applied to the original programming. Every engine will have its own unique map and by adjusting this we can fine tune the characteristics of the engine; unleashing more power and in many cases reduce fuel consumption too.


What do you actually modify in vehicle?

We do not change any hardware in your vehicle, we just modify the operating parameters in the ECU’s program or ‘map’. In many cases the map stored on the ECU’s processor can be accessed via the on-board diagnostics port (OBD) in the vehicle AKA Remapping via OBD, normally found under the dashboard. In some newer models the ECU will have to be removed from the vehicle and the casing opened, our technicians will then use specialist tools to read the original map straight from the processing chip also known as chip tuning.

The technician will then upload the original map to our map writing team who will adjust the parameters to maximise the performance, fuel economy or a clever blend of both. Depending on the vehicle and ECU type the remapping process can take under an hour and if at any time you wish to return your vehicles ECU to its original default settings, this can be done easily and free of charge as we always keep a copy of the original software as a backup.


Benefits of ECU Programming

ECU remapping will not only improve the engines power and torque figures, it will also sharpen the throttle response and widen the power-band. This will make the power delivery a lot more linear, which in turn will make the vehicle feel a lot livelier to drive and the engine more flexible. Frequently, the vehicles power output is restricted by the manufacturer for no other reason than to ensure that the vehicle fits into a class to suit fleet buyers. As a driving enthusiast, you do not need or want such restrictions placed upon your vehicles ECU and its performance therefore you can benefit from the hidden power and torque locked away within your engine management system.

The other main benefit of remapping will be a reduction in fuel consumption. With the extra torque especially at the bottom of the rev range you will see a fuel saving, as it will require less throttle input to maintain motorway speeds, you can drive in a higher gear at a slower speed as well as helping significantly when fully laden, towing or on gradients and even in start stop traffic.

File Bolt-On’s

We offer the lowest cost quality tuning files in the remapping industry; the more you buy the cheaper they are.

  • 6x Remapping Files are £295 + VAT - That’s £49.16 each
  • 14x Remapping Files are £595 + VAT - That’s £42.50 each
  • 25x Remapping Files are £995 + VAT - That’s £39.80 each

The Bolt-on files do roll forward, giving your tuning business greater flexibility to expand with controlled costs. Single files are also available at £75 each for occasional users. Normal file service hours are 7am-7am GMT weekdays, 8am- 4pm Saturdays and all other times by advance request. All dealers have access to the same prices and get the same level of service. We do not offer a cheaper ‘no-frills’ file service, we prefer to work to the highest standards, not cut back.

All prices plus VAT at 20%, unless in Europe with a valid VAT number; or outside the EU.


Company Policy

SINGLE PRICING POLICY

We don’t believe in hiding price increases for certain vehicle types, so the price you see is the price you pay for a standard Stage 1 tune. You choose our standard, high-power or eco tune, plus any combination of available DPF, EGR or speed limiter solutions. If it’s a truck, tractor or boat then, again, it is one file cost.

ACCOUNT FACILITIES

Account facilities are available if you want to pay monthly by Direct Debit, or retained debit card, with up to 45 days free credit.

DPF Service

We are at the forefront of providing software for DPF solution on supported vehicles - this can be a valuable income stream and is included in your tuning file cost.

Speed Limiter Bonus

The package also includes speed limiter removal on supported vehicles.


Remapping File Service

White Label File Service
  • Joining the Quantum Tuning dealer group is good for your business, but this might not suit everyone, so we can supply you on a confidential basis, completely transparent to your customer base.
  • This is something we currently do for dozens of well-known companies around UK, Europe and the rest of the world.
  • If ever questioned about the source of your files by a customer, you simply tell them that you employ a top file writing company, under contract.
  • You still get the benefits of our technical support and training. If you are in an area not covered by an existing dealer, you will also receive customer leads.

WAYS TO BECOME A DEALER

BUY YOUR OWN TOOL

You can buy your KessV2 for just to £1,640 + VAT including your first 6 tuning files. You then buy files in Bolt-on’s of 6, 14 or 25 files starting at less than £50 plus VAT per vehicle. Some competitors do sell the KessV2 cheaper, sometimes at a loss in order to permanently tie you into a more expensive file price long term. More often than not these suppliers will refuse to transfer the slave to a new file supplier, or at least make a charge for doing so.

If you are only moderately successful in this business and do 100 files a year with a higher competitors £75 file price, then you will pay £2,500 extra per year in files compared with Quantum - There is no such thing as a cheap tool.

ALREADY OWN YOUR OWN TOOL

If you have Master tools then we can supply you files straight away. If you have an Alientech or CMD Slave tool then this needs to be transferred to our Master first. If your existing tuner refuses to transfer the tool, or wants to charge a large fee, then it is sometimes more cost effective to have a new tool.

BENCH ECU’s

We encourage everyone in their business to invest in an Alientech K-TAG system for doing ECU-off work. For dealers that don’t have this facility, then we provide a bench programming service for £100 including the file. Simply send or bring the ECU into us and we will turn it round same day.
